Filipino Superstitions!!!

As many of us Filipinos have been told all our life not to do this, not to do that ESPECIALLY, our elderly "nakaka tanda sa atin" !! So in today's post I will be sharing some superstitious things my family always tell me.

Being at the age of 21 I have gone through many superstitious sayings.

1. Do not shower when you're on your 1st-3rd day on the "time of the month".
2. Do not pluck your hair (eyebrows, armpits) after dark
3. Always say "tabi tabi po" when you are walking in wooded areas
4. Never put your leg up when you are eating
5. When buying a house don't buy a house with stairs that lead straight out the door
6.Don't look at cartoons when you are pregnant or else your baby will look like the cartoon character
7. If you dream of any number(s), get a lottery ticket!
8. When you get your first period, use it to wash your face for your face will become smooth and clear
9. When there is a moth/butterfly around you they are your guardian angels (any one of your family members who have passed
10. Siblings must not get married on the same exact year, it is considered bad luck to at least one of them
11. You must not try on or wear wedding shoes and gown before the wedding. The wedding might not happen if you try it on.
12. If you give a wallet, or purse as a gift you must put a $1 or 1 pesos plus in as "tang bahay"
13. When someone has passed away, at the burial little kids must be passed over the casket before putting it in the ground.
14.On new years, wear polka dots, jump really high to grow tall, cook palutang, put grapes up on the wall or door, have 12 round fruits on the table, have lots of food on the table so you will have plenty of food all year round
15. on your birthday always cook pancit for long life
16. If you step on a person and say "hindi ka na lalaki" the person will not grow anymore or at least will stay around that height
17. When you have a house blessing, throw some coins/ cash everywhere for people to catch
I'm sure there are plenty more out there... Post them here or send me a link of more Filipino superstitions :)

Thanks guys :) hopefully I will become more active in this blog.

Intro

Hey Guys!

I am back, I believe I created this account back in 2010 but I did not post anything. I am now done school and currently do not have a part time so this will keep me busy for the mean time.

I plan to post stuff such as my experiences with traveling in the Philippines and other places in North America, food I cooked/baked, DIY's and all sorts of things.

Just a brief description about me.

Name: Anne Heily
Nickname: Anne, Heily, Anna, Annie, Hei, Bailey (lol only one person calls me this)
Birthdate: April 21
Righty or Lefty: Lefty
Hobbies: Cooking/ baking, singing (karaoke), dancing, playing piano/ guitar/ uke (still learning songs not a pro), travelling, shopping
Favourite cuisine: Filipino, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, all sorts

I literally typed down a whole lot more to this post but my computer froze and it didn't save the whole thing I typed up...

Any who, I was just saying how it seems funny to people how I am so Filipino because I was born and raised here in Canada but I speak fluent tagalog. All I do is talk about the Philippines and filipino celebs  and watch filipino films. If I was given a chance to live in the Philippines I would, all I need to find is a job that I would love to do everyday and have a decent amount of salary to take care of myself. Anything good for my future :)

Here is just a picture of me when I was on Vacation in the Philippines back in 2011 with my cousin Chiaki at her Debut:)
